What is the greatest fear that plagues Americans? That's right - getting hospital bills! And Will, a black war veteran, is baffled by this problem. His wife needs $231,000 for surgery, and they won't even take the poor guy to McDuck's. So he goes to his white half-brother Danny, a professional robber. He is willing to help, but on the condition that Will take part in another bank robbery. There are 32 million bucks at stake, so it's worth it. But as usual, something goes wrong, and here the two brothers escape in a hijacked ambulance with a wounded policeman and a paramedic girl as hostages. And for the next two hours of screen time, they'll be driving around L.A. accompanied by a bunch of cops...
Well of course no one expects a believable plot from an action movie. Otherwise, the main characters would have been killed off at the beginning of the movie. But the script is off the charts ridiculous. The number of absurdities and plot holes just amazes me. I will not even list them, but it pisses me off! And I won't swear off the obligatory black and white partners and positive gays. Obviously, in Hollywood, this is a mandatory standard and without them the film would not get a pass.
But since we're watching a Michael Bay movie, could it at least be entertaining crap? Alas, no! I won't lie, you do see some spectacular shots, but that's about it. But most of the time the camera trembles like in the hands of an epileptic, constantly flying around and very soon this kind of filming starts to get really tiresome. Especially when you consider that most of the time nothing particularly interesting happens on the screen. But the number of broken counters and trash cans is off the charts. A lot of cars are smashed, too, but somehow it is too banal, and who is surprised by it?
Perhaps the film would have been perceived more positively if it had lasted an hour and a half. But the movie runs one and a half times longer and the further it goes, the more it makes you sleepy. Especially when you consider that it's just not clear what such important things Bay didn't want to sacrifice in the editing. So you watch the sluggish chase and yawn. And looking at the pathologically dull ending you say to yourself - why did I even watch this?
What is especially sad is that the actors play quite well, which is a rare thing in action films. But it cannot make up for the mediocre, stupid script. It's a shame. But there is a point in watching it - if you really need to fall asleep and you are too lazy to run to the drugstore for sleeping pills. Then this movie is the best!
