Obsessed with living up to her dead father's legacy, a young sheriff, Maddie (Tess Haubrich) finds her mettle tested when locals are found ripped to shreds. Initial investigations suggest a bullet defying, murderous, giant kangaroo, but Maddie is determined not to believe that. And yet the killings go on.
I'm sure all of you know Scream? Scream was one of the best horrors made during that time. It used cliches from every horror movie and trope known, but delivered it in such slapstick style that it was irresistible. One of the most hilarious horrors I've ever seen to this day. It went on to become a franchise with 7 films attached to it to date. Now, if Rippy producers had targeted it toward that genre and audience, I think they might have had a great film on their hands. It would probably have become a cult classic, but unfortunately for us, they decided to try and pass it off as a genuine horror film. It failed miserably.
Why did it fail? Well, the dialogue at times was laughable, but not in a humorous sense. The continuity was almost non-existent. The plot holes were every scene. The acting was so dull or bad that it was tortuous. There was the odd moment here and there where I sat bolt upright because I thought I saw one of the cast actually act for a few seconds. But I had had a drink or 3 so I think it might have just been my imagination. The monster itself looked like something that some kids built in their shed for Halloween. I almost howled with laughter after it took so many high calibre bullets, and then several seconds later, it's eye fell out, swinging down on it's face by the nerves, like a car headlight dropping off a car and being held in place by the wiring.
Of course the heroine of the hour overcame it just before it killed everyone in the hotel. When she ran out of bullets shooting it's eye out, someone threw her a giant axe that was hanging on the wall and looked like a prop from Outlander.
There was a twist at the end which I think was supposed to be clever and maybe was hinting to a second film. I won't tell you what it was but, I do fervently hope there is no second film. I gave it a 4 and I am still unsure why.
