The movie 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' was the final point in the slashers of the 80's, after which the genre started to decline, as a result of which the genre could not get back on its feet for a long time....
And the point here is that by that time a lot of things in the genre had already been created - Jason appeared, 'Halloween' was filmed, besides at that time the main breakthrough in the genre - 'Nightmare on Elm Street' was filmed, the main character of which Freddy Krueger is still the most original maniac in cinematography, and it would seem where to go next? The creators had to break their heads more and more over new slashers, so that there would be something new in them ...
So it happened with this picture, in which the main villain decided to make Santa Claus, which caused a furious resonance in the people, especially among the 'loving mothers of America', who with their calls and demonstrations simply forced the creators to remove the movie from distribution, you see - they were outraged by the image of Santa killer! What an absurdity, you will say, but this incident caused further decline of the genre - the creators were already tied up in arms and legs, and it took not a little time for the audience to see the brutal, uncompromising crush again....
And now actually about the movie. As it is customary about the product, often judged by the packaging, which painted Santa with an axe, but this does not prevent the movie from being good. And I would say that it stands out among many slashers, surpassing the same name 'Friday the 13th'.....
The plot is about a boy who, as a child, saw Santa Claus kill his parents, after which this symbol of Christmas began to scare him. Many years passed - and ironically one fine Christmas night he had to put on Santa's costume, after which he started doing his 'job':
If you behaved well, Santa would give you something,
But if you've been bad, he'll punish you!
Taking an axe 18-year-old Billy begins to punish all those who misbehaved ... It should be said that the creators have done a good job here - the movie is easy to watch, especially under the Christmas melodies, which are the basis of the soundtrack of this movie. The deaths are also spectacular, though maybe not as spectacular as it was in 'Friday', where the makeup was done by the master of his craft Tom Savini, but it still looked great. So to all fans of the genre, I recommend it.
