"Rush ” is a wild card movie that is at the same time a dark horse. No one knew what to expect from this biopic. Sports dramas are well remembered in our minds, take for example “Warrior”, “Coach Carter ‘ and the recently released ’Legend #17”, but this new movie from Ron Howard raises the bar in the genre and creates a masterpiece that will be remembered by many. I have never had my breath taken away like this while watching a movie. The main reason for this is not knowing what will happen on the track in the next moment.
Since F1 sports dramas are not so often filmed, comparing "Rush ‘ to the ’Fast and Furious ” franchise is not appropriate at all, because the main theme of the movie is not the competition itself, but the rivalry between two extraordinary personalities. Chris Hemsworth plays James Hunt, who can be described in one word - a walker. He smokes, drinks, has success with the weaker sex, is self-centered and sometimes prone to self-destruction. Daniel Brühl's character is the complete opposite - purposeful, restrained, cold-blooded. The film is unusual in that the audience will sympathize with the antagonist more than the protagonist. This technique buoyed me up a lot, considering how banal most movies are nowadays.
I believe that the soundtrack is the most important technical component in a movie. While watching it, I had sparks dancing in my head from the fireworks created by Hans Zimmer. Pleasant melodies alternate with fast songs during the races. Zimmer is a living example of how to write music for movies.
Ron Howard shows the main characters from both sides to give them more humanity. James Hunt is shown at the beginning as a negative character and Niki Lauda as a positive one. Then there is a role reversal. Fans of "The Prestige ‘ will find similarities in the rivalry between the main characters of ’Rush ” and the characters of Christopher Nolan's masterpiece. Unlike the latter, Hunt and Lauda do not try to desert each other, but instead treat each other with respect and admiration. They are like friends who are destined to meet only on the track, hoping to open a bottle of champagne on the podium and tease the loser with it.
"Rush ” is a masterpiece movie! Possibly the best movie of Ron Howard's career. The movie can be watched by everyone who has reached maturity. Children are not recommended as there are several erotic scenes.
