An incredibly cute talking bear cub sailed from the wilds of Peru to London. His lifelong dream was to go to this wonderful city and meet a wonderful English family. All people in Great Britain are very polite and courteous, so, as it seemed to the bear, he would have no problems with being in the city.
However, from the very beginning, the bear cub encountered something he did not expect. Instead of open arms, he found himself in a typical rush hour, where a person (not to mention a bear cub) can be easily run over, and only by luck did he find a one-night stay with a real English family. Since the bear cub was not trustworthy, the family promised to find him a home in London, and offered to name him Paddington, in honor of the London train station where they found him.
Paddington is a very popular character in the UK. He first appeared in books in the late 50's, and in the 70's and 90's TV shows about the talking bear from the slumbering Peru came out. However, full-length films about him have not been released yet, so it was decided to make a full-fledged movie with director Paul King at the head of the project and Nicole Kidman as the villain to attract the attention of not only the British audience.
However, the cast of Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters and Hugh Bonneville would have done just fine without Nicole Kidman.
What we learn from this movie is that talking bears really like orange jam, and peering and keeping an eye on your neighbors isn't a bad thing.
What we get:
The Adventure of Paddington is a wonderful very kind tale that will appeal to children and adults alike. We are reminded of somewhat forgotten human and family values, manners and rules of good manners. If you want to watch a real British movie with British humor, accent (if you watch in the original) and Great Britain itself in the frame (let it be a children's movie) - then I think you will like the movie.
