When I was a child, this was the only movie cassette I had for a long time. And what a movie it was. I must have watched it a hundred times.
Then recently, I came across it again... I spent a wonderful hour and a half watching it, feeling nostalgic.
It's a great movie — kind, magical, fairy-tale-like... It's hard for me to evaluate it objectively, because my childhood view of the movie clouds my judgment.
But I'll say it anyway. The special effects are top-notch for the time, the acting is very good, and there's no sense that the actors don't know how to play with what they can't see.
But what has always amazed me are the sets. Everyone would probably want to visit a house like that, if not more — to live there!
