In my opinion, Creepshow 2 is practically on par with the first part, despite the fact that it was directed not by the great George A. Romero, but by the relatively unknown Michael Gornick. The film retains the atmosphere of both the first part and the original comic book on which it is based.

This time, there are only three stories instead of five. The main connecting story is a cartoon. A little boy rides his bike to the post office to pick up the latest issue of his favorite comic book, Creepshow. In addition to the magazine, he receives something else in a small package. On the way back, he is accosted by a local gang, who take his comics and mock the boy for his hobby, which was, of course, their fatal mistake. A huge plant suddenly emerges from the package and eats all the bullies. The moral, as in the first part, remains the same. It's better not to interfere with children's enthusiasm for Creepshow comics.

The first novella is called “The Old Wooden Chief.” In a small American Indian town that has been completely abandoned by its residents, an elderly couple lives. They own a small shop, but since the town is completely deserted, they have no customers. Next to the shop stands a wooden statue of an Indian chief, which the old man wipes down every morning and has heartfelt conversations with. And then one fine day, a wealthy Indian brings the old couple some jewelry to thank them for everything they have done for their people and this town. That same evening, three scoundrels burst into the store, kill the old couple, and take the jewelry. As is customary in this genre, the wooden statue comes to life and takes revenge.

The heroes of the second novella, entitled “The Raft,” are four young people who have come to the lake to have a good time. They all swim to the raft, which is located right in the middle of the lake. A substance resembling an oil slick floats towards them. The desire to touch it with her hands leads one of the heroines to a deadly end. A fatal outcome awaits absolutely all the characters. And all because they did not notice a small sign on the shore with the words “No swimming.” I just want to say - be more careful, young people.

The third novella, “The Traveling Companion,” is, in my opinion, the most fascinating. The main character, a rich old lady, oversleeps in the bed of her young lover. Afraid of being late home before her husband arrives, she drives at full speed along a deserted, rainy road at night. Lost in thought about whether her gigolo's work is worth the money she paid him, she suddenly hits a random hitchhiker in a raincoat and with an umbrella. There were no witnesses to the accident. After a few minutes of deliberation, she decides to flee the scene of the crime. But on the way, she is pursued by the reanimated corpse of the man she hit, who says, “Thanks for the ride, lady.” As usual, Stephen King makes a cameo appearance in a small role. He has a very small role as a truck driver.

I think the beauty of such films is that, despite all the horror, they are still very nostalgic 80s movies. These are the kind of movies you want to retell to your friends while sitting around a campfire on a dark night under a full moon. In my opinion, the two parts of the film Creepshow are the most classic examples of this type of horror film. And the most unfortunate thing, of course, is that the fashion for such films has irrevocably passed. Such films were only made in the 80s and a little in the 90s. Starting with John Carpenter's canonical Halloween and ending with A Nightmare on Elm Street and Tales from the Crypt. Unfortunately, by the 2000s, such atmospheric horror films, which could be enjoyed equally by adults and children, had completely disappeared. They were replaced by bloody, gory films like Scream, Saw, and Hostel, which you wouldn't dare show to children, and you couldn't tell around a campfire without a bottle of booze... It wouldn't be interesting.
