I would call this film a guide to fighting corruption in a single town. The classic template of a tough guy arriving in town and encountering his brother's killers, who have quickly woven a conspiracy, is quickly shattered. Justice must be restored by criminal means, but how else can you defeat gangsters in police uniforms? And here, quite unobtrusively, we are invited to join the heroes in rejoicing at the brutal punishment of the gangsters. Stop... And we've already fallen into the trap. Then everything takes a completely unexpected turn, and it turns out that the main antagonists are the very people who restored justice a few days earlier. A fair turn of events.
Well, the film itself is aesthetically consistent with the style of such unrestrained blaxploitation. The heroic Fred Williamson will light up the entire picture with his emotions, sparking excitement and completely capturing the viewer's attention. Even Pam Grier won't be able to distract you.
Charles Bronson, Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner - Fred Williamson offered them a real alternative, and ‘Bucktown’ became the perfect testing ground for creating a star. He was convincing. Even when the hero sits down on an armored personnel carrier, Fred doesn't look ridiculous.
