Many people are frightened by the very thought of being in the depths of the ocean, so images associated with submariners, especially in dangerous situations, make a strong impression when done well.
1942. World War II is in full swing. Tens of thousands of men are fighting for control of the Atlantic, where the Germans still have the upper hand. A team of American submariners receives a secret order to set sail immediately. Their goal is to capture the enemy submarine U-571 and the Enigma encryption machine on board. The future of this war may depend on the courage of these sailors, but their mission turns out to be far more dangerous and unpredictable than expected. The plot, which slowly gains momentum, builds tension with each new scene, doubling it. And although the events of the film interpret historical facts quite arbitrarily, what happens on the screen is undoubtedly captivating, and it is very difficult to tear yourself away. The filmmakers deserve praise for the masterfully created underwater battle scenes, which develop another important battlefield in that great war - the sea. The film won an Oscar for Best Sound Editing, which is truly outstanding here. The lead role is played by the wonderful young actor Matthew McConaughey, who became an important part of a strong cast that includes Bill Paxton and Harvey Keitel.
A spectacular and memorable film about underwater battles during World War II. Don't look for historical accuracy in this film, just enjoy the spectacle.
