Experience shows that you don't need a huge budget to make a good horror movie (see Saw, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel). Real masterpieces are made here almost purely out of enthusiasm—the directors are young and inexperienced, and it is in such conditions that talent is born.
Eli Roth squeezed everything he could and more out of this modest budget, which everyone here was so horrified by. The result is a magnificent, bloody, dark, and cruel horror film with a well-known dash of black humor.
Tension and fear begin to thicken around you when you see how a terrible disease, starting with the skin, affects people's souls, and now former friends kill and maim each other just to save their own skin.
At the same time, the atmosphere of horror and hopelessness is so skillfully built up that you will think twice before drinking water from the tap next time.
