The dark streets of dirty New York are meditatively and smoothly immersed in their own juice of violence, prostitution, and drugs. A silent observer in the face of a laconic taxi driver, only one gaze out of a thousand eyes conveys to us the palette of all the obscurantism that is happening around. And if endurance is only an inner cup for each of us, then the endless streams of dirt and darkness pouring daily, sooner or later will find their edge. And then the time will come to administer justice himself ...
The unhurried and almost lulling narration allowed me to only more vividly feel the atmosphere of the picture, to reveal the main character and his attitude to the world around him and, first of all, to himself. Frankly, the first (conditionally) part of the film I liked the most, and I began to look forward to the subsequent denouement. However, as the finale approached, as for me, the tape began to sag noticeably and the accumulation of the necessary suspense and intriguing tension began to roll inexorably into scrap. In fact, the final sketch itself can be compared to the process of intercourse with the desired woman. Where later, after a couple of fictions, you feel that ejaculation is already inevitable, you seem to be holding back, but your brain has already given the order to 'lower the sails'. You are clearly unhappy and are trying to find reasons in yourself, but at the same time you notice that your desired one could be brighter and more active, and in bed she is far from a goddess. So it is with the final outcome. The result - you are waiting for the fireworks, but you get a firecracker under your feet.
There are no complaints about De Niro himself. The acting master with his trademark half-glances and the slightly nervous smile of his shell-shocked hero does not give rise to doubts about his enormous talent. In fact, the rest of the famous actors in the person of Cybill Shepard, Jodie Foster, Harvey Keitel were just a pleasant background on the path of the protagonist. This tape is a tape of one character.
So, the feature film Taxi Driver by the great Martin Scorsese is a very solid visual drama, great acting, but with a faded and 'vanilla' ending. A classic without absolutely any details of its components. For me, this tape has not gone through the 'classic processing' of time.
