“Finally Riddick is back” - the first thing that comes to mind is not so much the fans of Vin Diesel's talent, but the fans of ‘The Black Hole’ (1999), who for many years have grown up thoroughly, reviewed the first parts (let's not forget about ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ and animated variations on the theme) more than once and ‘dreamed’ of returning to the atmosphere of science fiction films of the nineties. But you should familiarize yourself with the synopsis and the size of the budget, as it becomes uncomfortable. The budget, by the way, is little different from the poverty-stricken subsistence movie minimum, almost all familiar faces are removed from the actors, and Riddick is again on a desert planet trying to escape from the predatory human clutches.
The permanent director of the project David Tui after not too successful collections of 'Chronicles', decided to reinsure himself, moving away from Helion, Lord Marshall, Vaako and other necromongers, and tried to revive the old legend about a lonely escaped convict Furian. But this would not be enough for modern viewers, so we also have a simple dramatic line about fathers and children of the Jones family and funny interaction with previously unseen inhabitants of an alien planet. Also in the course of the plot, Riddick conducts his inner monologue, remembering who he was - trying to recreate himself.
Richard, and that's Riddick's name, gets into trouble again, this time not as intergalactic as before, but he is not the same, so he has enough adventures. Trusting the arguments of the insidious and power-hungry Vaako, Riddick is transported to Furya, to his native land, but.... Finding himself again on an unfamiliar planet, without people or any infrastructure, the Furyan returns to the roots of humanity: he puts on skins (snake skins, by the way), tames a dog-like creature and calls a cab in the form of two ships full of bounty hunters, or rather the head - the head of a desperate fugitive.
Tui manages to make something close to candy, if not candy, out of a ridiculous budget, by bringing us back to the beloved world to the accompaniment of painfully familiar music and showing that the characters don't get old, they just go on vacation. Having opaquely hinted at the next parts, the creators are clearly in anticipation of the future success of the reanimated series. It's too early to talk about box office receipts, but the fact is at least that 'Riddick' is exactly what was expected from it and no one planned to jump over the head. We are waiting for further battles with the new leader of necromongers! And don't forget to be afraid of the darkness.
