Once again I am convinced of the truth 'don't judge a book by its cover'. The trailer of the movie evoked associations with 'Fast and Furious', so I was skeptical. However, watching the movie itself dispelled these doubts. 'Red One' is an adventure New Year's comedy about a super-modern Santa Claus and his secret high-tech organization at the North Pole. He is guarded by a cold-blooded thug Callum Drift, a formidable human-bear Garcia and a whole staff of agents, and looking after all of them is a secret society 'MORA', controlling the activities of mythological creatures. And so, when Santa is suddenly kidnapped right out of a highly guarded skyscraper in the heart of the Pole, a man is hired to find him - the cynical but best of detectives Jack O'Malley. He and Drift are paired up to go on a wild goose chase, while trying to connect with his son. The movie is easy to watch, but not without instructive notes, which are unobtrusively delivered to the viewer, and this is the most important thing. This story has interesting characters, unexpected plot twists, the plot playfully balances on the edge of action and Christmas comedy. The latter elements reminded me a lot of one of my favorite games 'Serious Sam: The second encounter', where, contrary to the title, everything is drenched in humor with a parody of seriousness. Nevertheless, underneath the layer of comedy, the movie discusses some pretty serious topics like the ability to see the good in people and the justification of punishment. Undoubtedly, Callum Drift has every chance to become the official character of the Christmas mythology, as such a strong and loyal friend any child would want to look up to. And Jack O'Malley's story will remind all dads of what's most important. Verdict: the new Christmas movie is 100 percent successful!
